This is a very thorough and well written article on regression, how it works and what it does.

The best, hands down, video on why you evaulate yourself I have ever seen. Makes me laugh, and cry, and want to re-record it as a teacher. Dr. Cox from Scrubs.

I think I see a problem. The sentence below implies that we’re looking for a line through the origin, because a proportional (or direct) relationship has one amount as a multiple of the other. 0*k = 0. And yet most linear regressions don’t go through the origin.
“In our example we’ve decided we are looking for a direct (proportional) relationship.”
I would read the whole thing with a critical eye before using it.
Sue, I didn’t catch that. Thank you. You are right, for a direct variation that may be true, but for a statistics problem it would be very unusual to have an intercept of zero.
Thank you!
