  1. I think I see a problem. The sentence below implies that we’re looking for a line through the origin, because a proportional (or direct) relationship has one amount as a multiple of the other. 0*k = 0. And yet most linear regressions don’t go through the origin.

    “In our example we’ve decided we are looking for a direct (proportional) relationship.”

    I would read the whole thing with a critical eye before using it.

  2. Sue, I didn’t catch that. Thank you. You are right, for a direct variation that may be true, but for a statistics problem it would be very unusual to have an intercept of zero.
